For the second year, students in the University System of Georgia will have access to affordable, high quality health coverage through Pearce & Pearce Inc. thanks to the Board of Regents’ decision to develop a state-wide health insurance consortium. Follow this link for a printable program brochure.
The coverage period for the plans for 2007–08 is as follows:
Enrollment is only allowed during the first 31 days of the Fall Enrollment Period, the first 31 days of the Spring/Summer Enrollment Period, and the first 31 days of the Summer Enrollment Period. Please see the Pearce & Pearce website for exceptions.
Each semester, the following groups of students will be enrolled in the Mandatory Plan:
Students in these groups who already have comparable insurance coverage can waive the insurance requirement by using an online process.
Premiums for individual students in the Mandatory Plan are as follows:
Students may also purchase health insurance coverage for their spouse and children for an additional premium through the the Pearce & Pearce website for Georgia State University.
To help offset the cost of the statewide mandated policy through Pearce & Pearce, Inc. Georgia State will provide a contribution toward the premium of students who hold a graduate assistantship with a full tuition waiver. The Georgia State contribution amount will be $200 for the 2007–08 academic year, with $38.50 applied for Fall 2006 and $161.50 for Spring/Summer 2007. Additionally, the College of Arts and Sciences will reduce the insurace costs for grad assistants with full tuition waivers who are enrolled in the state insurance plan by $150 annually ($75 per semester). As a result of the university and college contributions, eligible College of Arts and Sciences students will pay only the reduced portion of the semester premium as follows.
Students who waive the insurance requirement are not eligible for the university or college supplements. The Georgia State contribution does not apply toward the purchase of insurance for spouse or children. The contribution applies only when the student purchases the mandatory plan through Pearce & Pearce, Inc. and does not apply to any other health insurance policy.
Departments may also make contributions toward the student's premium. Contact your graduate director for additional information.
Students who already have comparable insurance coverage can waive the insurance requirement by using an online process provided on the Pearce & Pearce website for Georgia State University. A comparable plan is one that meets the minimum requirements indicated in on the Pearce & Pearce website.
