Ice cream social brings staff together

Wednesday, July 29, 2009 – Ann Claycombe

More than 125 staff members turned out for a little cool summer fun at the College of Arts and Sciences’ Ice Cream Social on July 15.

The event included a bake-off, where staff members could submit their most delicious creations for evaluation. It was a tough – and tasty – competition, but judges Charles Derby and Helene Erenberg finally chose three winners out of the field:

1st Place: Juana Leary, Communication, for her Quads and Orange Blossoms.
2nd Place: Barbara Brewster, Dean's Office, for her Red Velvet Cake
3rd place: Rachel Nelms, Graduate Studies, for her Molasses Cookies.

The event was planned by the college’s Mentoring and Morale committee, and funded by the College Staff Recognition Endowment. To support the endowment, and future college events, use account code 02G29 when you give to the Georgia State Foundation.

"Thanks to the Mentoring and Morale committee for such a fun time,” said Todd Studebaker, the committee’s chair.  “They all deserve a pat on the back."

The committee hopes to make the Ice Cream Social an annual event. So if you have a killer recipe – or just a killer appetite – make sure you’re ready when next summer rolls around!
