Sedimentology

The Sedimentology Laboratory, located in Kell 315 and 315-A, is a wet lab used for processing, preparing, and analyzing various types of soils and sediments.  In addition to holding the Department's sedimentology sample archive, the lab houses a Micromeritics X-ray Sedigraph 5100, a UIC Coulometer, a RoTap, a Leica MZ125 research microscope with digital camera, an Easypure LF ultrapure water source, 2 Fisher Scientific accuSpin 400 centrifuges, and a Denver Instrument microbalance.

The Sedimentology Lab has been inspected and certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the importation, analysis, and archiving of foreign soils.

Current research activities include sediment processing and analysis of stream sand and gravel, lake cores, volcaniclastic sediment, soils, and paleosols.
