Associate Dean, Undergraduate Learning
Dr. Jonathan Gayles serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Learning. Gayles, who earned his Ph.D. in Applied Anthropology, has written extensively on education and the interplay of such factors race, immigration, standardized testing, and academic resilience.
Since coming to Georgia State University in 2004, he has mentored students through the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Research Program and the GSU Undergraduate Research Conference. Those students have presented–and won awards–at a number of national conferences, including the Stanford Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference and the National Council for Black Studies annual conference.
In 2011, Gayles was awarded the GSU Torch of Peace Award for his extensive Hurricane Katrina relief work.
