Interdisciplinary Minor in Middle East Studies
College of Arts and Sciences
(revised March 2004)
Requirements:
The student should have a Georgia State University cumulative grade point average or a projected grade point overage of 2.0.
15 semester hours are required for the minor (see course list below).
No more than 9 semester hours may be taken in any one department or school and courses cannot be from the student’s major area. Nine hours must be at the 3000-4000 level. A minimum grade of C is required in all courses.
At least 50 percent of the minor must be completed after the semester in which the BIS Faculty Advisory Council approves the minor program plan.
Students may choose from the following courses:
AH 4010 Art of Ancient Egypt and Nubia
AH 4011 Art and Architecture of Ancient Egypt I: 4000 - 1600 BC
AH 4012 Art and Architecture of Ancient Egypt II: 1600 BC – 31 BC
AH 4020 Art and Architecture of the Ancient Near East
AH 4900 Special Topics in Art History (when appropriate) recent topics have included: Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Iconography and Symbolism in Ancient Funerary Art, Art of Persia and Mughal India , Islamic Art 1, Islamic Art 2, and Ancient Egyptian Portraiture, Orientalism
