Found in Translation: Roots of Western Heritage

A Workshop for University System of Georgia Faculty
Friday, October 19– Saturday, October 20, 2007
Georgia Perimeter College, Clarkston Campus, Atlanta, Georgia

Please join us for a weekend of discussion, debate, politics, religion, culture, arts, and cuisine. Open to all University System of Georgia faculty who are non-specialists in Middle Eastern Studies, this workshop will explore the Middle Eastern roots of Western culture.

  1. Drawing upon local and regional experts, we will discuss topics ranging from religion and politics to the arts and culture. Examples include sessions on literature with Dr. Alan Godlas (UGA) and Dr. Teirab AshShareef (Georgia State University), and Islamic civilization with Dr. Vernon Egger (Georgia Southern University). Participants will receive readings in preparation for the workshop.
  1. In addition to lectures and discussions, the weekend will feature fabulous Middle Eastern food, culture, and film. More information about the program will be available soon.

The registration fee for this workshop is $25. This includes all lectures, two Middle Eastern dinners, a film screening, and a Middle Eastern Musical performance.

Participants will be responsible for their transportation and lodging. We have reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn in Decatur at a special conference rate, but these rooms will be released on October 9th.

Space will be limited and attendance is awarded based on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early to assure your attendance. For more information, please contact Alta Schwartz at aschwartz@gsu.edu.
