Advisement Process
Academic advisement is an essential component of an education at Georgia State, and the university is committed to providing advice and assistance that students need at every step of their degree programs.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students receive advisement from three sources as they progress through their degree programs:
- The Student Advisement Center All freshmen and new transfer students who have fewer than 42 credit hours, undecided majors, and students in the Academic Improvement Program are advised through the university' Student Advisement Center.
- The College of Arts and Sciences Office of Academic Assistance advises undergraduate students who have earned 42 hours or more and have declared a major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Department Advisors and Directors are located in each department within the College of Arts and Sciences and are available to advise students on program options specific to the major as well as special learning opportunities.
Graduate Students
Graduate students receive advisement from two sources as they progress through their degree programs:
- The College of Arts and Sciences Office of Graduate and Scheduling Services provides guidance to students when they first enter their program and as they approach graduation.
- Departmental graduate directors and advisors are located in each department within the College of Arts and Sciences and advise students about program options and special learning opportunities.
